Delta Gamma Run For Sight

The 17th Annual Run For Sight is on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at St. Louis Union Station. The registration opens at 7:00am and the run kicks off at 8:30am. The event features a 5K run, a 2- mile run/walk, a childrens run for children ages 12 and under. Afterward there is a celebration with food, beverages, prizes and awards. Please come out and support the Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments.

Toddler Room Toy Storage

I am in the process of designing a toddler room for my daughter. As I buy new future for her room I am looking for “room to grow” furniture. This week I was on a mission to find a piece of furniture that would be a storage unit for toys, shoes, and all the other knick-knacks toddlers accumulate. I finally found a white 4 tier 12 bind storage unit at Target. I picked this storage unit because it allows my daughter easy access to get out and put back her toys. Also, I think the 12 bind concept will enable my daughter to learn oragnizional skills at an early age.

Barnes & Noble has a wonderful selection of sign language books for babies and toddlers. I just bought my daughter Baby Signs For Bedtime by Linda Acredolo and Susan Goodwyn. Acredolo and Goodwyn have a line of sign language books for babies and toddlers, which range from animal signs to mealtime signs. As soon as Barnes & Noble receive their next shipment, I plan on buying Baby Signs for Mealtime. I think bedtime signs and mealtime signs are a good place for my daughter to start.

I am currently reading Baby Signing For Dummies. Over the last few months I have heard there are numerous benefits to teach your baby or toddler American Sign Language (ASL). One benefits of using ASL is to develop communication before your baby or toddler can speak fluently. Several studies show that signing babies and toddlers talk sooner and have larger vocabularies. Baby Signing For Dummies is easy to follow with over 150 illustrations, which show step-by-step directions to each sign. My hope is to start teaching my daughter a few signs soon!
